The second season of You has dropped on Netflix for Boxing Day, leading to excited fans cancelling all of their plans to binge watch the episodes. The thriller began as a Lifetime series before moving to Netflix, and returned to Joe after the cliffhanger season one ended on.

Season one ended differently to the book by Caroline Kepnes, which the series was based on. Fans initially thought that Joe had killed his ex-girlfriend Candace Stone, but she then showed up in the final scene to confront him.

The second season now sees Joe presenting himself as someone else, having run away from Candace and trying to forget about the two murders he committed. Taking on a new job and finding a new love interest, it appears that Joe is trying to make himself a better person.

Will there be a season three? Although there are no plans from Netflix’s end, co-creator and executive producer Sera Gamble previously told Cosmopolitan UK in January 2019 that it could ‘absolutely’ come back for a third season, saying that ‘it’s up to the powers that be. We hope that a lot of people will watch the show and that it gets to continue.

‘I will say that we have an idea for season three that is SO exciting that people talk about it in the [writer’s] room everyday. So my fingers are crossed… I’ll just say, I hope we get the chance to keep making the show.’

Season two unfolds in LA, and Penn Badgley – who plays Joe – said that this had a big impact on the show. Speaking to Digital Spy and other publications, he also discussed future seasons, saying: ‘I remember having a conversation with [executive producer] Greg Berlanti about this.

‘He was like, ‘You know what? I think we can put you anywhere and the show works. We could put you in Hawaii and it would work’. Maybe that will happen in the fourth season? I’ll keep my fingers crossed!’
