Apple has been working hard to invest in TV originals with big names and big storylines, and there’s another one on the horizon called Foundation.
Based on the novel by Isaac Asimov, the upcoming series tells the story of The Foundation, which is a group of exiles who go against the Galactic Empire in order to save it from destruction.
Jared Harris and Lee Pace will be taking the lead in this Apple TV+ science fiction drama. Harris will play Hari Seldon, a man with a talent for maths who is able to predict that the empire will come to its demise. Meanwhile, Pace will play Brother Day, the Emperor of the Galaxy.
David S Goyer will be the showrunner for the series, and is also executive producer alongside David Ellison, Marcy Ross and Dana Goldberg. Isaac Asimov’s daughter, Robyn, is also set to be credited as an executive producer. Rupert Sanders, known for his work on Ghost In The Shell and Snow White and the Huntsman, will be directing the series.
Foundation is a saga which was first published as a trilogy of novels between 1951 and 1953. It was expanded to seven novels over three decades later.
Apple TV+ launches on November 1 at a cost of $5 a month. There will be four originals available to start with – See, Dickinson, For All Mankind and The Morning Show.
