HBO Max is venturing into the world of stand-up comedy, and has enlisted Conan O’Brien to assist with the task.
The comedian, who is known as a late-night host, will be producing a number of comedy specials for the upcoming streaming platform, according to announcements from the company’s recent unveiling of the service.
O’Brien will be picking out comedians for the specials, which have come as part of a joint partnership that WarnerMedia and Team Coco set up last year.
He will be hosting two out of the five comedy specials, which will include several rising stars performing short sets. The other three specials will comprise one comedian doing a set lasting for an hour.
HBO Max has also purchased the rights to an hour-long special from comic James Veitch.
Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max, said: ‘Partnering with our very own king of comedy for these specials was a no-brainer as we build up premium content for HBO Max.
‘Delivering laughs and discovering comedic talent is what Team Coco is all about.’
HBO Max launches in May 2020 with content from several areas, such as HBO and Cartoon Network. It will be priced at $14.99 and include 20 original scripted and unscripted series, with further titles in development.
