While many people may be focused on mainstream platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, one of the niche services doing well lately is Crunchyroll. Impressively, the platform hit four million subscribers in January.
There is also a new series coming up with Idris and Sabrina Elba, that currently has the title of Dantai. It has been described as an Afro-futuristic science fiction series focusing on the rise of biotechnology in a city setting.
Two main characters from either side of a divide in the city will go up against each other as the series explores themes such as equality within a society which has been made corrupt by this new form of technology.
Joanne Waage, general manager at Crunchyroll, said: ‘Gens Y and Z have experienced superhero fatigue and are hungry for the new stories and ideas that our creators tell.
‘This development deal with Sabrina and Idris Elba is another example of how we’re working with best-in-class partners to bring in new audiences and tell fresh and compelling stories through a medium that transcends genres and generations.’
