Now that Disney+ is officially live, Netflix must be feeling the heat. Apparently the streaming service won’t be going down without a fight, though, as Netflix and Nickelodeon have just announced a multi-year partnership enabling original animated content to be produced.
The content will come in the form of both TV shows and movies, and will feature the cartoons already seen in the Nickelodeon library, as well as new characters.
Netflix and Nickelodeon have worked together in the past, producing shows such as Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus and Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.
Projects currently in the works include specials based on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Loud House.
Melissa Cobb, Netflix vice president of original animation, said: ‘Nickelodeon has generated scores of characters that kids love, and we look forward to telling wholly original stories that re-imagine and expand on the worlds they inhabit.
‘We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with Brian Robbins, Ramsey Naito, and the creative team at Nickelodeon in new ways as we look to find fresh voices and bring bold stories to our global audience on Netflix.’
