People who want to watch That ‘70s Show have known for a while that it’s available on Netflix for streaming, but that could be about to change as the streaming wars lead to competitors indicating they want the series for themselves.
According to Carsey-Werner Television, there have been at least four buyers – including Netflix – who are interested in taking on exclusive streaming rights for the show after its current span ends next year.
The show has been on Netflix since 2011, with eight seasons and 200 episodes available. Originally, it ran on Fox between 1998 and 2006.
Carsey-Werner Domestic Television say that the streaming wars are leading to huge price tags being attached to comedies. Describing it as an ‘enviable position’ for them to be in, they went on to say that exclusive streaming rights for That ‘70s Show could gain them hundreds of millions of dollars.
That ‘70s Show has proven to be a popular series for Netflix, coming out as the 15th most watched show for the platform in the US in 2018.
The series is a coming-of-age story based in Wisconsin which stars Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon and Wilmer Valderrama.
