Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki is making a return to National Lampoon’s Vacation by producing a new comedy series called The Griswolds for HBO Max. According to Deadline, the streaming service has ordered a single-camera half-hour show based on the Vacation series.
The show focuses on the lives of Chicago family Clark, Ellen and kids Rusty and Audrey. They live in the suburbs and go on family trips which always end in some kind of disaster.
Vacation was released back in 1983, and saw Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase star as the parents. The feature, which was based on a short story by John Hughes, led to the sequels European Vacation, Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation. Further down the line, Ed Helms played the role of an adult Rusty in a 2015 reboot.
Galecki played Rusty Griswold in the 1989 Christmas Vacation, while Juliette Lewis played his sister Audrey. He will now be executive producing, according to The Hollywood Reporter, while Tim Hobert will be writing the scripts.
