Friends fans have been in a frenzy ever since rumours emerged that a reunion of the iconic show could be coming to HBO Max. Now we know that new HBO Max chief Bob Greenblatt is looking into the project as a priority, as he has revealed that the project is currently being ‘talked’ about.
It looks like there will still be some form of revival even if it isn’t a full reboot, as the plan is to start out with a single reunion special. Fans will also be able to watch the whole backlog of episodes on HBO Max once the licensing deal with Netflix expires.
Greenblatt told The Hollywood Reporter that he managed to get most of the Friends cast back in the same room together when he oversaw a James Burrows tribute special. The 2016 show saw Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc returning as a group, with Matthew Perry the only one to miss out.
The chief went on to say: ‘We’re talking about [a reboot]. We’ve been drilling down on what it could be and trying to see if everybody’s really on board and interested. And if so, can we make the right deals for everybody. We’re starting it as a special. It’s possible there could be something ongoing, but it would be in steps. We’re far from that.’
Fans have been hoping for some form of Friends reunion ever since Jennifer Aniston shared a photo of everyone as part of her Instagram profile launch. The picture included Perry, who hasn’t been in the public spotlight in recent years.
