When Netflix released a special in Brazil called The First Temptation of Christ, it was subject to backlash from religious subscribers who took offence at the implication that Jesus was gay. Now the HQ of those who created the special – Porta dos Fundos – has been attacked by protestors.
The group posted about the attack in a statement on Twitter which read: ‘In the early morning of December 24, on Christmas Eve, the headquarters of Porta dos Fundos was the victim of an attack. Molotov cocktails were thrown at our building.
‘We will move on, more united, stronger, more inspired and confident that the country will survive this storm of hatred and love will prevail alongside freedom of speech.’
The fire was contained after a security guard attended to it, and fortunately no-one was hurt. However, the group has released the security camera images of the attack to the authorities.
The First Temptation of Christ is a Portuguese language comedy which shows Jesus coming home from the desert to celebrate his 30th birthday. He comes with a male companion called Orlando and implies that they’re together. The show led to millions of people signing a petition which called on Netflix to remove it from the platform due to its offensive content.
