Amazon has revealed that its Prime service, which includes Prime Video, has reached 150 million subscribers across the globe.
In its Q4 earnings, the company reported that its results had gone well above expectations. The report resulted in stock rising rapidly and the market cap exceeding $1 trillion.
Sales surged by 21% to reach $87 billion, and net income increased to $3.3 billion. Per diluted share, this equates to $6.47, which is much higher than Wall Street’s expectation of just above $4. In the year prior, it had been $6.04.
Amazon attributed its success in part to the holiday season, stating that billions of items were ordered by customers on a global scale, which included ‘tens of millions’ of Amazon devices.
Some of the best-selling devices over the holiday period were Echo Show 5, Fire TV Stick 4K with Alexa Voice Remote and Echo Dot.
Original series and movies which made their debut on the Prime Video platform last quarter include The Report, The Aeronauts, The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Special, The Expanse, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Jack Ryan and The Man in the High Castle.
Prime Video received eight nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, with Fleabag winning Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. Phoebe Waller-Bridge won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy.
Hunters will premiere on Prime Video on February 21, telling the story of Nazi hunters living in 1977 in New York City.
