Season two of popular Netflix series Sex Education only came out last month, but now the show has been renewed for a third run.
The comedy features Asa Butterfield in the central role, playing a teenager who offers advice on sex to his classmate. Meanwhile, Gillian Anderson is cast in the role of his mother.
The character of Eric Effiong, played by Ncuti Gatwa, was one of the initial people to share the announcement after Netflix, saying in two tweets ‘Oi you lot’ then ‘We got a season 3’.
Sex Education’s first season landed a slot in the top ten most streamed series on Netflix for 2019. Fans are anticipating that season 3 will come in January 2021, based on previous release patterns.
Laurie Nunn, series creator, has said to The Hollywood Reporter that the characters featured in the series have ‘got legs’, going on to say that the series could keep going for several more seasons.
She said: ‘I think I could do some more with them if we’re given the chance. [Netflix] is very supportive and really wanting us to tell the stories that we feel passionate about. It really feels like we’re all on the same page, wanting to make the same show.’
