Controversial Netflix series Insatiable has been cancelled after two seasons on the streamer.
The series followed a central character called Patty who was bullied by people due to her weight. However, after becoming thin, she goes out for payback against those who made her feel bad about herself.
The comedy received criticism due to accusations of promoting fat shaming. The backlash began taking place even before the show premiered on Netflix.
The show starred Debby Ryan as Patty, and other stars included Dallas Roberts, Alyssa Milano, Christopher Gorham, Erinn Westbrook, Michael Provost, Kimmy Shields, Irene Choi, and Sarah Colonna.
Lauren Gussis was the show creator, and was also executive producer with Ryan Seacrest, Nina Wass, Andrea Shay, Todd Hoffman, and Dennis Kim.
July 2018 saw a Change.org petition gather over 100,000 signatures asking that Netflix pull the plug on the series. The show premiered a month later, in August.
Gussis shared a personal letter on social media as part of her efforts to save the show, saying: ‘When I was 13, I was suicidal. My best friends dumped me, I was bullied, and I wanted revenge. I thought if I looked pretty on the outside, I’d feel like I was enough. Instead, I developed an eating disorder…and the kind of rage that makes you want to do dark things … please give the show a chance.’
