There are still a few weeks to go until the upcoming Netflix series The Witcher hits the streaming platform, but show runner Lauren Hissrich has unveiled ambitious plans for seven seasons of the feature.
In an interview with SFZ magazine, Hissrich revealed that she had stories mapped out for a substantial length of time, saying ‘Right now it’s just about ‘how do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?’
‘The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies into just season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to.’
Hissrich has a large volume of material to draw from, as the series is based on author Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels, with the trailer for season one appearing to be based on Sword of Destiny and The Last Wish.
With five more books of material in the saga to write from, along with a sixth standalone novel, there is plenty of material – but time will tell if Netflix renews the show for a second season.
