Discussing Film have revealed that the upcoming Disney+ Lizzie McGuire reboot will feature an openly gay character and an agoraphobic character.
It’s rumoured that these two characters will be Lizzie’s neighbours in New York. One of them has been code-named Carson Lang, while the other has the code name Sooz.
Production on the Lizzie McGuire series has just begun, with recent news revealing that the entire McGuire family would be reprising their roles – in other words, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas will be returning to our screens on the upcoming streaming service.
Speaking of the family role reprisals, president and chief creative officer at the Disney Channel Gary Marsh said: ‘Just like there is no Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff, there is no McGuire family without Hallie, Robert, and Jake.
‘The original series holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we can’t wait to introduce fans, both old and new, to an older, wiser, yet still perfectly imperfect Lizzie.’
At the D23 Expo, where Disney revealed the Lizzie McGuire reboot, Hilary Duff said of the series: ‘Lizzie has also grown up, she’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget.
‘She has her dream job, the perfect life right now working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator.
‘She has the perfect man, who owns a fancy restaurant. She’s getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday.’
