With Disney+ on the horizon as the new streaming service launches on November 12, consumers and investors are eyeing up their plans for non-scripted originals, with one of them set to be a new talk show called Earth to Ned.
The show will see a blue puppet alien from Jim Henson, called Ned, team up with his lieutenant – called Cornelius – who were sent to planet Earth to inspect it for an invasion.
However, after spending time here the pair become immersed in pop culture and embark on a mission to create the ultimate late-night talk show. In order to achieve this, they regularly bring celebrity guests onto their ship, which is hidden deep underground.
Unscripted originals VR for Disney+, Dan Silver, said: ‘Disney has a long history of giving audiences a glimpse at faraway lands and bringing new talent into the spotlight.
‘We believe Ned is next in line. We’re lucky to have the talents of the Jim Henson Co. and the folks at Marwar Junction Productions helping Ned, Cornelius, BETI and the Clods to execute and fully realize their vision.
‘And I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank Ned for promising to entertain us, rather than destroy us all.’
The upcoming streaming service had originally planned a reboot of classic series Muppets, but it was scrapped following creative differences.
Earth to Ned doesn’t yet have a release date, but there will be plenty of other content to enjoy in the meantime when Disney+ launches in just a few weeks.
