Disney is planning a live action remake of its iconic animated movie The Little Mermaid, and Jonah Hauer-King has just been announced as Eric.
The other roles were filled during the summer, with Halle Bailey cast in the titular role of Ariel. Meanwhile, Melissa McCarthy will play Ursula, Javier Bardem is King Triton, Jacob Tremblay is Flounder, Awkwafina is Scuttle and Daveed Diggs is Sebastian.
Previously, Harry Styles was in talks for the part of Eric, but this ultimately didn’t work out. The final decision was between London-based Hauer-King and Cameron Cuffe. After several rounds of auditions, Hauer-King got the part.
Some Twitter users were disappointed that the One Direction star didn’t make the role, with one person saying ‘just thinking about how we could have had harry as prince eric.’
However, others were more supportive of the decision, with a user saying ‘now that ive done my research and know who he is, he fits prince eric to a tee.’
Currently, production is scheduled to begin in early 2020.
