HBO Max has revealed an advert for its upcoming streaming service, which showcases the fact that WarnerMedia has now spent a year and a half acquiring some of the most popular series around for the platform.
The acquisitions have cost the company billions in a series of investments that they are hoping will drive people away from competitors and over to their offering. Bidding wars have resulted in the platform gaining such shows as Friends, Big Bang Theory and South Park.
Other enviable titles include Wonder Woman, The Lego Movie, The Matrix, South Park and HBO shows. Noticeably, Harry Potter isn’t available, as the franchise is licensed to NBCUniversal until 2025.
After watching the advert, one may guess that the new slogan for HBO Max is ‘Where HBO meets so much more’. The main focus of the commercial seems to be that this collection of titles marks the first time that combination of shows will be available on one central hub.
AT&T recently reported that its WarnerMedia division lost over $1 billion in revenue as a result of its investment in HBO Max. To be specific, these losses were due to the company not licensing its original titles to competitors such as Netflix and Hulu.
HBO Max is currently set to make its debut in the streaming market in May for the price of $14.99 per month. There is said to be an ad-supported tier launching in 2021.
