Hit musical Hamilton premiered on Disney+ on July 3rd. Previously, the only way to watch the Tony and Pulitzer award winning musical with its original cast was to catch its notoriously sold out run on Broadway.
Now the movie is available to stream from the comfort of your living room, but is it worth checking out?
Analytics firm Apptopia revealed that Disney+ was downloaded 458,796 times in the US over the course of Hamilton’s first weekend on the service. This is a huge increase of 74% on the four weekends of June.
The musical also has a 99% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience score, marking it a definite triumph.
Hamilton was originally slated to hit theatres in 2021, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was released on Disney+ early. Luckily, the musical seems to have been a smash hit victory for Disney+, making the decision to pull the theatrical release worth it.
Disney+ is available for $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year.
