Now that season 19 of The Voice has begun, it makes sense that fans will want a recap of the previous episode if they didn’t manage to catch the season premiere.
While the judges are now back in their glossy red chairs, ready to judge the talent, the COVID-19 restrictions mean fans need to get used to some changes – namely a virtual audience, contestant families needing to watch remotely and coaches not being able to come near the performers.
However, fans were given some comic relief in the form of Blake offering life-size cardboard cutouts of himself for those making it onto his team, Kelly providing Team Kelly coats for the same purpose and Gwen offering a Team Gwen t-shirt cannon.
Fans were somewhat creeped out by John’s fake hand on a stick which let him shake hands with his team from a distance, but it’s the thought that counts, right?
Here are our top picks:
Tamara Jade, 30, from Bowie, MD – Cuz I Love You by Lizzo
Tamara performed with Lizzo at the VMAs but struggled after the pandemic. She landed a four-chair turn after some big notes and rapping. Kelly commented that Tamara would probably make the final.
Team: Team Legend
Lauren Frihauf, 16, from Byers, Colo – Come To My Window by Melissa Etheridge
John and Gwen turned immediately after hearing her mature voice with a unique tone. Gwen commented on her wiggly vibrato and John praised her clear point of view as a singer.
Team: Team Gwen
Joseph Soul, 34, from Hana, Hawaii – Is This Love by Bob Marley
Kelly and Blake loved Joseph’s RnB version of the reggae track. While Blake tried to provide a sales pitch of his previous wins, Kelly complimented his sweetness and power in his voice.
Team: Team Kelly
Ian Flanigan, 30, from Saugerties, NY – Colder Weather by Zac Brown Band
Blake turns his chair after hearing such a deep voice the judges are left in awe. He is a country singer who travels in an RV searching for gigs. Blake tries to hide his excitement once he sees Ian for himself.
