Ewan McGregor, star of the upcoming Disney+ series about Obi-Wan Kenobi, has leaked some details about the show ahead of time.
Although the series won’t begin filming until summer 2020, McGregor had some information to share in a recent interview. Speaking to Men’s Journal, he explained when in time the episodes would be situated, saying: ‘The storyline sits between Episode III and Episode IV’.
To pinpoint the timeframe, the story will pan out eight years after Revenge of the Sith and 11 years before A New Hope. McGregor went on to say: ‘The Jedi Order was falling apart. It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him—Well, his arc will be quite interesting, I think, dealing with the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III. It’s quite something to get over.’
There wasn’t much else said in terms of concrete information about what fans can expect to see, but McGregor did reveal that the series will comprise six episodes, each lasting for an hour.
Back in 2017, the adventures of Obi-Wan were originally reported to become a feature-length movie, like Rogue One and Solo. However, this changed after Solo performed poorly in theaters.
The Obi-Wan series, along with McGregor’s starring role, was confirmed by Disney at the D23 Expo this year. Furthermore, we now also know that Deborah Chow – who has been working on The Mandalorian – will be directing the series.
The bad news is that fans have a wait ahead of them to see the series, as with filming not beginning until summer 2020, it seems unlikely that the show will become available on the streaming service until 2021. However, in the meantime The Mandalorian will launch on November 12 when Disney+ becomes live to subscribers.
