Those subscribed to Amazon Prime Video – and those who are fans of the classic Lord of the Rings franchise – will most likely already know about the upcoming series on the streaming platform.
Now there is news about the casting for the lead actor after several years have gone by since the initial announcement of the project. According to Variety, Robert Aramayo will be playing a young hero called Beldor.
Aramayo played a young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones during season six and seven. Beldor is part of an ancient kingdom which existed thousands of years before the events which go down in the novels penned by J.R.R.Tolkien.
The series has apparently not begun filming yet. Part of the reason behind this is probably because Will Poulter, who was previously cast in the lead role, experienced issues with his schedule and ultimately left the project.
There have been hiring decisions made for behind the camera too, as Amazon has taken on Bryan Cogman as a consulting producer. Cogman has written eleven episodes of Game of Thrones so is well-versed in the world of fantasy production.
The Lord of the Rings adaptation has been signed on for two seasons by Amazon before filming has even begun. The fantasy epic will give Amazon a place alongside the other big players in the streaming wars – as HBO has Game of Thrones and Netflix has recently launched The Witcher.
