The Netflix Q4 results are out, and they have revealed that while its international subscriber growth targets were smashed, they missed out on their home territory in the US.
The news comes amidst streaming services such as Disney Plus arriving on the market and changing the face of the industry by threatening the dominance of Netflix as the go-to platform for video on demand.
To break the numbers down, Netflix gained 8.76 million paid net subscribers in global markets, which exceeded its own forecast.
In the US, the launch of Disney Plus during this quarter was felt as 420,000 paid net subscribers were added – well below its forecast of 600,000.
Notably, this is the third consecutive quarter where Netflix has been below target for US subscriber growth.
Netflix stated that this quarter had seen more quarterly paid net subscribers than ever before in every region, with the exception of the US and Canada.
