Disney is working on a lifelike remodel of its animated movie Bambi, according to Variety. The original movie, which came out in 1942, is being developed for the modern audience by screenwriters Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer, who worked on Captain Marvel and Sierra Burgess Is A Loser respectively.
As with Disney’s The Jungle Book and The Lion King remakes, the Bambi remodel will make use of photo-realistic CGI to retell the story of a fawn who makes friends with a rabbit and a skunk before going through the death of his mother after she is captured by a hunter.
Disney has managed to gross over $8.2 billion worldwide since taking on the strategy of remaking its animated movies from its vault.
Starting with Alice in Wonderland in 2010, the catalog of new titles shows no signs of letting up, with other new titles in the making including Cruella (from 101 Dalmatians) and Mulan.
What’s more, a live-action version of The Little Mermaid is being planned, as is a remake of Pinnochio and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There will be a movie called Peter and Wendy (from Peter Pan), a fresh Lilo and Stitch, and an updated Hunchback of Notre Dame.
