Netflix and Samsung have revealed an unusual content partnership recently at the Unpacked mobile phone event in San Francisco.
Guests weren’t expecting it, but the streamer appeared on stage alongside the hardware giant to announce the new team project.
The partnership comprises two main elements. One of them involves Netflix being integrated into the Samsung Bixby voice recognition system, as well as the interface for the latest smartphone model.
This means that people will simply be able to ask Bixby to play a specific show and the AI will browse the Netflix app to find the episodes.
Another feature is reportedly the introduction of pop-up recommendations on Galaxy phones, where users will be shown shows Netflix thinks they will enjoy.
The second part of the partnership has proven controversial, as it involves Netflix providing exclusive content to subscribers who use the app on Samsung Galaxy phones.
Some people involved with Netflix Originals will use the cameras on the Galaxy S20 phones to shoot behind the scenes footage and interviews which will be offered exclusively to Samsung Galaxy phone users.
