Netflix is creating a show which looks at how Spotify got started and became so popular over the years. The scripted series will reportedly come from the book Spotify Untold.
The show follows in the footsteps of similar treatments, as The Social Network tells the story of how Facebook was founded and Quibi is producing its flagship series on the tale of Snapchat’s origins.
The show from Netflix will shed light on how Spotify came to be and how it has shaped the way people access and listen to music over the past decade.
Tesha Crawford, Director of International Originals Northern Europe at Netflix, said: ‘The founding tale of Spotify is a great example of how a local story can have a global impact.
‘We are really excited about bringing this success story to life and we look forward to continuing our great collaboration with director Per-Olav Sørensen and the team at Yellow Bird UK.’
The story, which will be available in both English and Swedish, focuses on Swedish tech entrepreneur Daniel Ek and his partner Martin Lorentzon.
The pair created the music service during a time when music piracy was at unprecedented levels.
Berna Levin, executive producer at Yellow Bird, said: ‘I’m thrilled to be making this timely and entertaining series for Netflix. The story of how a small band of Swedish tech industry insiders transformed music – how we listen to it and how it’s made – is truly a tale for our time.’
