With the ‘Snyder Cut’ of Justice League arriving to HBO Max sometime in the first half of 2021, fan anticipation is mounting.
Speculation about the appearance of a Green Lantern in the film has been a particular focus lately – director Zack Snyder was tight lipped in his Justice Con panel about the Green Lantern logo’s inclusion in some Justice League merchandise, and yesterday (August 4th) Ryan Reynolds playfully added to the theorizing.
Reynolds starred as Hal Jordan in Green Lantern way back in 2011, but the film was badly received – so much so that Reynolds has dissed the movie (and himself) twice in the Deadpool franchise, and even posted a ‘Reynolds Cut’ of the movie that was only 27 seconds long to Twitter yesterday. The clip included an edited snippet of the theatrical version of Justice League, with Reynolds suited up as Jordan.
As for whether he is appearing in the Snyder Cut (or upcoming Shazam! spinoff Black Adam, starring the Rock), Reynolds tweeted: ‘I’m not playing Hawkman in Black Adam. Although I generally do whatever the hell @TheRock tells me to do. I would however love to be in Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie and I’ve heard I may already be in it? #SnyderCut’
While Reynolds appears only to be playfully adding to the rumours, there is a chance that a Lantern could appear in the Snyder Cut in a larger role than the brief cameo seen in the theatrical version. With the news that Michael Keaton’s Batman is reportedly appearing in the Flashpoint movie, DC’s universe is expanding – so Reynolds returning as Hal Jordan isn’t completely outside the realm of possibility, even if nothing is confirmed.
