Yesterday (August 10th) brought news that WarnerMedia is undergoing a major round of layoffs, which have unfortunately lead to a huge amount of job losses across the DC brand.
DC’s Editor In Chief Bob Harras, Senior Vice President of Publishing Strategy & Support Services Hank Kanalz, Vice President of Global Publishing Initiatives & Digital Strategy Bobbie Chase, Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services Jonah Weiland, Senior Story Editor Brian Cunningham and Executive Editor Mark Doyle are all said to have been laid off.
Reportedly, a massive one third of DC’s editorial staff have lost their jobs. Jim Lee remains DC’s Chief Creative Officer.
DC Direct has been closed entirely, likely in order for Warner Bros. Consumer Products to take over merchandising and collectibles.
DC Universe, DC’s exclusive streaming service, has been hit especially hard by the layoffs – they are said to be losing almost all of their staff. This makes it far more likely for DC Universe to become defunct in favor of HBO Max.
As a whole, WarnerMedia is reportedly losing 600 staffers.
The news comes ahead of DC’s virtual convention event DC FanDome, which goes live August 22nd for 24 hours.
