After season 3 of Amazon Prime Video’s hit original TV show The Boys was announced at Comic-Con@Home, we’ve now got another update on what’s next for the series.
Yesterday (August 17th), Jensen Ackles posted a video on his Instagram revealing that he will be playing superhero Soldier Boy in The Boys’ third season.
Ackles caption the video: ‘I keep wondering what I’ll do….when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year. Then it hit me’. The video sees him catch a The Boys graphic novel while the song Soldier Boy by Elvis Presley plays.
Soldier Boy is something like The Boys’ take on Captain America – a World War 2 era superhero, the first of his kind in his universe, who went on to become a celebrity and cultural icon.
Showrunner Eric Kripke and Ackles previously worked together on Supernatural, which is due to air its finale this November 19th after a pandemic-related delay. The series has run for 15 seasons.
In a statement, Kripke said: ‘When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys’.
The Boys season 2 premieres September 4th on Amazon Prime Video. 3 episodes will be released at once, before the show switches to a weekly schedule for the rest of the season. There will also be an after show hosted by Aisha Tyler.
You can catch up on season 1 now with Amazon Prime Video’s 30 day free trial. Along with The Boys, you’ll also be able to watch popular shows like Absentia and movies like Knives Out.
With the option to stream to 3 screens at once and thousands of hours of content available, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on Amazon Prime Video.
