The first issue of Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok’s Batman: The Three Jokers finally hit shelves yesterday, four years on from its announcement. Fans seem to think it worth the long wait, however, with many praising the first instalment.
The DC comic focuses on the trauma inflicted on Batman, Batgirl and Red Hood by the Joker – as well as the possibility of the Joker actually being three different people.

Maybe an obvious choice, but many consider Heath Ledger’s Joker to be the definitive on-screen version of the character. Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for his portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Joaquin Phoenix turned in a stunning performance as the titular character, charting his fall from damaged loner to supervillain in the making – and netted an Oscar for his work. This story draws inspiration from Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s iconic graphic novel The Killing Joke, as does Batman: The Three Jokers.
Batman: The Killing Joke
This is the most controversial choice on the list, but is worth a watch just for the legendary status of the story it adapts. Check out this animated movie to see the life-changing injury Batgirl (aka Barbara Gordon) suffered from the Joker, as well as what lead an ordinary comedian into becoming a supervillain in the first place. Plus, this story explains where the Red Hood mantle comes from.
Batman: Under the Red Hood
Widely regarded as one of DC’s best animated features, this movie adapts the comic arc of the same name. Red Hood – aka Jason Todd, Batman’s second Robin – is a key character in Batman: The Three Jokers. This story shows his death at the hands of the Joker, as well as his return from the grave and revenge-fuelled plot against both Batman and the Joker.
