Vidgo is a live television streaming service available in the United States. After a faltering start in 2016, the service relaunched in 2018 with a number of Spanish language streaming plans. At the end of 2019, Vidgo expanded into the English language market, having signed deals with a number of major companies such as Disney (who own ABC and ESPN), Fox, Viacom, and Discovery, allowing it to cater to a wide range of entertainment tastes and viewer needs.

Vidgo is now known for providing its customers with an excellent selection of entertainment channels, a board selection of sports channels, and a fantastic Spanish language service. Vidgo’s other distinguishing feature is its ability to host social watch parties. Customers can schedule a watch party together and then make use of extensive social features, such as chat.

There are some features lacking from Vidgo, such as a Video on Demand service and the ability to record shows (although both of these features are reportedly in development). However, it makes up for this with a number of other strengths, such as its highly competitive price point, its monthly subscription model with no commitments, its multi-device support, and the ability to use one account on multiple devices simultaneously. While Vidgo is a relatively young streaming service, it has already gained a great following and is attracting new customers at an impressive rate.

Streaming library

When you first open the Vidgo app, you will be asked to login before being guided through a number of introductory screens that explain how to use the app. You are then taken straight to the live television page. You can tap on the guide button to be shown all of the available channels in a long list and what they are currently airing. At the top is a filter bar where you can change the date and time so that you can see what will be shown in the future.

The guide also allows you to filter by channel category, such as Entertainment, Family and Sports. This makes it far easier to quickly narrow down your search and find what you are looking for. Next to each channel is an information button that will bring up details of the show that is currently airing.

The other major feature found with Vidgo is its social functions. It is possible to schedule a watch party with other Vidgo subscribers and arrange to watch the same show at the same time. You can then open a chat window where you will be able to send gifs, selfies, reactions, emojis and more to your friends as you watch the show.

Streaming quality

Those looking for ultra-high definition streams, such as 4K or even 8K, will have to look elsewhere. The Vidgo streams are reliable and very high quality, but the vast majority of them are 720p. That said, an increasing number of shows are being broadcast in 1080p, which provides a full high definition experience on all devices. Even the lower resolution of 720p looks great on the vast majority of devices and it will more than satisfy most viewers.

What’s more, Vidgo can be used on a huge range of devices thanks to many native apps. There are apps for both Android and iOS, and the developers have worked hard to produce bespoke apps for different types of devices.

Those with Roku will find the Vidgo app in the Roku Channel Store; similarly, it is possible to find an app in the Amazon app store for Fire TV Sticks. The iOS app is compatible with Apple TV, as it is with iPhones and iPads. However, it should be pointed out that at present, the app has not been optimized for iPads – only iPhones. Those with Android devices will find Vidgo in the Google Play Store and will be able to install it on the vast majority of smartphones and tablet devices. Similarly, the majority of Smart TVs run on Android, so many will offer a Vidgo app.

Customer support

Those who have a problem using the Vidgo service can easily contact the customer support team. They can be reached via telephone (800-978-7619) from Monday to Friday between 9am and 9pm EST and on Saturdays from 10am to 7pm EST. There is also a blog on the Vidgo website that contains a number of interesting and helpful articles. Those who would rather not use the telephone can reach Vidgo on social media. The company has both a Facebook and Twitter account and they are usually very quick to respond.

Free trial

Vidgo offers all those who sign up with a credit card a 7-day free trial. It is possible to cancel the service during the first three days of the trial period without being charged. However, if a customer does not cancel within the first three days then their credit card will be charged for the first month of service. The free trial is available for all of Vidgo’s plans so potential customers are able to see if it is right for their needs and if it is something that they would be willing to pay for.

Plans and pricing

Vidgo offers four different plans, each of which offers a slightly different selection of channels (which are listed above). The English Core Package costs $29.99 per month, the English Plus Package costs $39.99 per month, the Latino Package costs $9.99 per month and the Latino Mas Package costs $19.99 per month.

Vidgo does not offer any long-term contracts – all of the plans are charged on a month-to-month basis, meaning that there is no commitment for customers to make and they can be cancelled at any time. Furthermore, Vidgo regularly offers promotional codes and discounts to both new and existing customers.

Competitors

At present, Vidgo is the only service to offer many of the Spanish speaking channels within the US, so in that respect it is an unrivalled service. However, those interested in streaming English language channels have a number of options that they can consider. For example, AT&T Watch TV allows for viewing on mobile devices and is compatible with a similar range of devices. It is also a considerably cheaper service. However, it does not have the same range of channels; for instance, there are no sports channels or local channels.

A service with a similar price point to Vidgo is Sling TV. Once again, the selection of channels is significantly different. For instance, Sling TV does not include a number of key channels, but in many other ways it offers a very similar service. Therefore, it is advisable to review the list of channels offered by a service carefully before signing up for one.

Is Vidgo worth it?

The answer to this question very much depends on what you are looking for. First off, if you are based in the US and looking for Spanish-language television then there is no doubt that the service is excellent value for money. The basic Latino package is very affordable and the Latino Mas package is not much more expensive. Both of these packages include a number of channels that are not available through other services and are therefore highly attractive options.

If you are interested in English-language television then the question of whether Vidgo is worth it is really a matter of taste and needs. Those looking to watch sports are likely to be very happy with its offering thanks to the selection of different sports channels on offer. Similarly, there is an excellent choice of family channels, such as all of Disney’s channels, Nickelodeon, and more. Importantly, it is possible to watch on up to three devices simultaneously, which makes the service even more attractive to families. The monthly cost for these channels is very low, so if they are what you need, then it is an excellent deal.

Ultimately, it is important to remember that in addition to offering a 7-day trial, Vidgo is a monthly service with no long-term commitment, so if you are unhappy with it then you can cancel at any time at no additional cost. Overall, we would feel safe recommending Vidgo to people who want access to a range of Spanish language television channels with excellent social functionality.
