Overview

DAZN is a streaming service designed for sports fans, as it provides live streams of over 80 fights a year. These come from Bellator, World Boxing Super Series, Matchroom USA, Golden Boy Promotions and Combate Americas. Every match is included with a fight, ranging from the undercard up to the main event. There are a range of compatible devices which can be used with DAZN. For example, you can watch events from this provider using Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV and Amazon Fire TV.

Additionally, it will work with Android, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and web browsers on computers. Furthermore, content can be streamed in 1080 – HD, along with stereo audio. Unlimited devices can be used simultaneously to stream content, which is rarely seen with streaming services, and if your internet connection is fast enough, matches will be streamed in 60fps. DAZN will ensure its streaming quality adjusts to your internet connection so you have as little chance of interruptions or lag as possible.

Features

There is exclusive live boxing available with DAZN, and the provider has access to a huge library of boxing content. Exclusive coverage of Canelo Alvarez’s fights can be enjoyed, as can over 100 fights a year. If you don’t manage to watch a fight live, it will be available on demand immediately after it’s over, meaning there’s no need to wait for content to be released to the platform after it first airs. If there’s a match you really don’t want to miss, you can set reminders for particular events using the DAZN app, with this process simply involves tapping the clock symbol to set up a notification for either the pre-fight interview or the start of a fight.

User interface

Once a live event has finished airing for the first time, it will become available in the on-demand library. There isn’t an exact expiration date for this content, but it’s generally available for several weeks after the event has first premiered live. The main tabs available within the user interface, which operates under a black and white theme, are home, schedule and sports. There are sections underneath the sports tab such as features and competitions to further categorise the available content. There is a menu icon located on the right hand side of the screen, with a drop down menu, and a search bar for locating specific events you want to watch. The on-demand library offers a range of content, most of which isn’t related to fighting sports. For example, there is soccer, cricket, pool, snooker, gymnastics and MLB highlights. Original programming is available within this library, with content such as in-depth interviews with the fighters on offer.

Customer support, cancellations and refunds

There are two main options if you want to have direct contact with customer support at DAZN – email and live chat. The latter option connects to an agent incredibly quickly, and while email support also works efficiently, there can be a delay of several hours between submitting a support ticket and receiving a response. To use live chat, it isn’t necessary to be logged in or even to have an account with DAZN.

In order to cancel your DAZN membership, you will need to get in touch with customer support, as there is no way to complete this process by navigating to your account settings. Essentially, the most efficient way to cancel your subscription is to open live chat and select the category which states you have an issue with your account. Then you need to give the support agent your account details and request that your account be cancelled. If you go through with this process, keep an eye on your bank account to ensure subscription payments aren’t taken in error moving forwards. Furthermore, while DAZN does not offer a refund for account cancellations, you will be able to use the service for the remainder of the month or year, depending on which subscription you opted for.

Pricing, trials and subscriptions

DAZN previously offered a 30 day free trial to new subscribers, but this is sadly no longer the case. There are two options when it comes to price plans – you can pay $99.99 for the annual all access plan, or $19.99 for the monthly all access plan. Both plans give users access to the following features:

  • Over 100 fight nights per year without the hassle of sorting pay per view for each event
  • Exclusive access to fights from top competitors such as Daniel Jacobs, Michael Venom Page, Rory Macdonald and Canelo Alvarez
  • Watch ChangeUp, the MLB live whip-around show, seven days a week
  • Stream content on demand across a range of devices

Competitors

When it comes to niche streaming service providers, there are plenty of other sports platforms, such as ESPN Plus and NHL TV. This platform provides more of a focus on fighter sports, and offers live TV in ways that its competitors does not. The interface is not as intuitive as that found with NHL TV and ESPN Plus, but the original programming does make DAZN stand out. In terms of available content, it’s clear DAZN puts a lot of effort into adding new fights regularly and making them available as soon as possible after they first air. Furthermore, the ability to stream DAZN on unlimited devices is a perk not seen with many other streaming service providers out there. While refunds are not available with DAZN, this is also the case with other providers such as NHL TV, and it appears to be a standard process for such a service. If you want to stream DAZN on a device which isn’t your desktop’s web browser, you’ll find that this provider offers a range of compatible setups which is largely on par with other competitors. The price point is quite high compared to other services, especially as it is a niche genre, but some could argue that the amount of new content being constantly uploaded, unlimited device streaming, instant availability after new events first air and selection of original programming make it worth the price. It’s clear this provider is catering to hardcore fans who are only likely to watch sports related content as the bulk of their viewing, and if you fall under this demographic then you’re on to a winner with DAZN. However, if you like sports but also want to watch other genres of television and you’re operating on a budget, you may find that a service which offers multiple types of content, including sports, could be a better option for you.

Summary

It’s clear that DAZN is a niche platform designed for sports fans wanting to watch the latest events in high quality definition, along with gaining access to a range of live TV and on demand options. The subscription can be paid for either monthly or annually, allowing prospective customers some flexibility when it comes to signing up, and the fact unlimited devices can be used for streaming at any one time is arguably one of this provider’s biggest perks. If your priority is watching a range of dedicated sports content, from the events themselves to lead-ups towards them and in-depth analysis from expert commentators, this is the platform for you. Overall, DAZN is well worth the cost if this is the kind of content you’re looking for.
