Disney Plus has revealed a trailer for its upcoming original film Stargirl. The movie poster shows a woman looking into the distance with a sunset as the backdrop, and now there is a full teaser for the title.
America’s Got Talent winner Grace VanderWaal is making her first foray into acting with the movie, and other characters will be played by Giancarlo Esposito, Karan Brar, Darby Stanchfield and Maximilliano Hernandez.
The movie is an adaptation of the young adult novel which came out in 2000. It features a boy called Leo Borlock who is trying to blend into his high school in Mica, Arizona.
When Stargirl arrives at the school, she shakes up the system and teaches Leo that it’s good to be different.
VanderWaal said to Entertainment Weekly: ‘With the growth of social media, there’s the strongest force to conform more than ever, more than ever, ever, ever. All young people feel that.
‘I’ve felt that because I’m not the standard at the moment and it’s really, really important for everyone to know that if we were all supposed to be the same, we would be the same.
‘We’re different for a reason and I don’t know why we would change that because that’s such a cool blessing.’
The movie will make its debut on Disney Plus on March 13.
