New Netflix series AJ and the Queen, starring RuPaul, has been cancelled after its first season – and it’s safe to say that fans are not happy.

The series follows drag queen Ruby Red, who tours the United States to raise money for her own venture after losing her savings.

RuPaul posted the sad news on Twitter, saying ‘End of the road for AJ and The Queen. Netflix has decided not to extend our road trip across America. Thank you for all the love and support. We’re so very proud of the work.’

The news was met by a petition being launched for Netflix to renew the show for another season, with over 1500 people already signing it in the space of two days.

Petition creator Hunter Murphy described RuPaul’s drag performances as ‘killer’ and begged Netflix to ‘please renew this show!’
