There are plenty of new streaming services on the horizon, and with a lot already on offer for consumers to enjoy, it’s easy to have monthly costs rack up. However, those who want to be smart with their money can try out this hack to save some money on some of their subscriptions.
Warehouse chains such as Costco offer gift cards from iTunes at a 15% discount. If you sign up for a subscription such as Hulu or Netflix through iTunes, you can use this card to pay for the subscription. Be aware that Costco only runs such promotions at certain times of year, so keep an eye out for when they’re available. Furthermore, the cards are limited to two per customer. Another catch is if you figure you can switch to Netflix now and pay through iTunes, as this isn’t an option any more – but if you’re an old subscriber who pays this way, you should be good to go. The good news is that both new and existing Hulu members can opt to subscribe through iTunes.
If you’re not a Costco member, a way to get around this obstacle is to have either a friend or relative purchase a Costco Cash Card. Non-members can use this card, but the surcharge is 5%, meaning you will be saving 10% instead of 15%. Another option is having this person buy the iTunes card on your behalf.
This may seem like a lot of effort for minimum savings for some people, but if you like to have multiple subscriptions activated, saving 15% on Hulu as a new customer, and both Hulu and Netflix if you’ve been signed up through iTunes, will save a lot over time. This is especially true if you plan on trying out some other services once they are launched. For example, Apple TV Plus will be launching in early November of this year at a monthly cost of $4.99, with a seven day trial for new customers to try before they buy. Meanwhile, Disney Plus will be launching on November 12 at a price of $6.99 a month.
