Those who make a habit of tuning into the NBC Sports Network will not be too pleased to hear that the channel is being shut down.
NBCSN is known for covering the NHL, Premier League, Tour de France and NASCAR, but this will all be moved over to either USA Network or Peacock later in the year.
NBC Sports had received a ten year extension on their NHL TV contract in 2011, but that expires after the current season. Furthermore, the deal with the Premier League will be ending after the 2021-22 season.
NBC Sports Chairman Pete Bevacqua said as part of a memo to staff: ‘At the conclusion of 2021, we have decided that the best strategic next step for our Sports Group and the entire Company is to wind down NBCSN completely, with key elements of NBCSN’s programming moving to USA Network and, in some cases, Peacock for 2022 and beyond.’
In other words, to watch live coverage of these events in the future, it will be located either on Peacock or the USA Network. Those with the latter will be able to watch scripted shows, reality and sports.
