NBCSN is a TV channel which used to be owned by Comcast – but now NBCUniversal is the parent company. Falling under the NBC Sports group, it has been around since July 1 1995 – although upon its initial launch, it was known as the Outdoor Life Network. To begin with, the programming on OLN featured fishing, hunting and outdoor adventure pursuits. However, it gathered momentum when it began to cover the Tour de France. This led to it being rebranded as Versus in September 2006, especially because it had also begun airing a number of other mainstream sporting events at this point.

In 2011, Comcast obtained a majority stake in NBCUniversal. This resulted in the company combining its pay channel operations with the NBC ones. The sports channels which had come from Comcast were merged with the NBC Sports sector. Therefore, Versus became the NBC Sports Network on January 1, 2012 – NBCSN for short.
