There are few who haven’t heard of popular animated series He-Man, as the show rose to fame during the 80s and has been subject to many cultural references and memes since. Now Netflix is giving the characters new life by planning a reboot of classic series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

The show, which featured muscled-up characters and their antics on the magical planet Eternia, is being given an update as a CG animated series. The project is being carried out as a partnership between Netflix and Mattel Television, who want to reproduce the superhero series for today’s generation.

New and old fans alike will be able to enjoy the adventures of classic characters such as Battle Cat, Gwildor, Man-At-Arms and Extendar. For those not in the know, the original story premise involved Prince Adam being transformed into He-Man after finding the powers of Grayskull.

Currently, the pitch being worked towards is: ‘The classic battle between He-Man and evil Skeletor rages to new heights as both hero and villain forge new and mighty teams. A new generation of heroes fighting for the fate of us all.’

The story editor on the new series is Bryan Q Miller, who has worked on Smallville, Sleepy Hollow and Arrow. The project will act as a compliment to the anime series Masters of the Universe: Revelation from Kevin Smith, which is a sequel to the original series. This show will also be coming to Netflix.

Those who are really into the world of He-Man can make the most of a new comic book series from DC Comics, as well as a new toy line, which will become available from fall 2020.
