Netflix has revealed its commitment to anime is unwavering, as they have recently partnered with six Japanese creators to produce original content for its streaming service.
The six creators are Mari Yamazaki, Tow Ubukata, Otsuichi, Yasuo Ohtagaki, Shin Kibayashi and CLAMP. They are manga artists, screenwriters, filmmakers or novelists who have played a key role in the global growth and success of anime.
The news comes after last year’s announcement that Netflix would be partnering with five Japanese animation productions. This additional set of deals means Netflix is investing in bringing a whole host of original anime content to a global audience.
Chief Producer of Anime at Netflix Taiki Sakurai said: ‘we’re excited to work with these extraordinary creators to bring best in class anime to Netflix. These partnerships are part of our broader investment strategy to support Japanese anime – giving creators the ability to tell bold, innovative stories and giving them access to fans all around the world, because storytelling is boundless in the world of anime.’
Currently, Netflix Originals in the anime department include Devilman Crybaby, Knights of Sidonia, Little Witch Academia, Last Hope, Forest of Piano and SWORDGAI The Animation.
