NFL playoff football will now be aired on Nickelodeon in a bid to expand its viewership to younger audiences.

A recent conference call resulted in NFL team owners voting to add two more teams in the playoff format.

This means there will be two more wild-card playoff games every year. The vote was to broadcast these on NBC and CBS.

They will be aired on Peacock and Telemundo for NBC. CBS will air the games on Nickelodeon, in a telecast which aims to appeal to children.

NFL executive Brian Rolapp said: ‘The youth demographic is very important — there are plenty of young fans, and we want to continue to bring the game to the young fans.

‘This was an idea that CBS had in order to do that was to create a special production for them, but I think it’s very similar to NBC thinking, ‘How do we actually create a separate telecast to reach the Hispanic fan base?’ And that was on Telemundo.’
