Many people who purchase a PS5 will want to know if they can still use their favourite games from previous consoles on their new Sony product. Here is the latest on previous Playstations and whether their games will work with the PS5.
Will PS4 games work with PS5?
The PS5 has been developed to be backwards compatible with PS4 software. This means physical and digital software will work on the system. All PS4 purchases from the Playstation Store will be available on your PS5 when you log in with the same PSN account. Playstation Plus titles will also remain available providing the subscription is still active.
Furthermore, games will work better on PS5 as there is a ‘boost’ mode in place. There may be some compatibility issues, though, and not every single game will work in this way. To troubleshoot potential issues, one step is to ensure PS5 games are installed to the PS5’s SSD.
Will PS3, PS2 and PS1 games work with PS5?
Currently, Playstation has only confirmed that PS5 has backwards compatibility with PS4 games. While rumours have hinted support will be in place, nothing is official at the time of writing. Those who have purchased PS2 Classics from the Playstation Store for their PS4 should be able to load the games on their PS5, as the emulator used should be compatible with this console. Furthermore, remasters should work in a similar way.
