Roku is reportedly in talks with media and entertainment companies with an aim to begin producing original shows.
The move would take on competitors such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and newly launched Disney+.
According to Digiday, a spokesperson responded to an email with ‘We aren’t creating any original shows and don’t have any plans to do so’.
The publication pointed out that the response did not deny any talks were taking place.
Some believe the conversations could be taking place as background work to see if it would be worth investing in original programming.
This is because the investment can be large without a guarantee of a return.
