There are plenty of streaming services currently on the market, leaving consumers spoilt for choice. However, two other platforms are taking on their competitors in the streaming wars – namely, Snapchat and Tinder.

Snapchat has announced eight new premium shows designed for mobile viewing, as well as the renewal of four existing programs for further seasons. This comes in light of Snap Originals proving to be a huge success for the social media company.

The selection of shows, which are both scripted and unscripted, have been created in tall orientation, otherwise known as ‘portrait’ mode, so viewers won’t need to flip their phones to the side to view content. By appealing to the younger market, this will ensure users in the 18-24 demographic will either have Snapchat as an additional subscription or substitute it for new and existing platforms such as Netflix and Disney+.

Some of the new Snap Originals include:

  • Tekashi69 Vs The World
  • Nikita Unfiltered
  • The Honeybeez
  • Mind Yourself

There will also be scripted content, which includes:

  • Everything’s Fine
  • Players
  • Save Me

Existing Snap Originals being renewed for further seasons include:

  • Bringing Up Bhabie
  • Two Sides
  • Kappa Crypto
  • The Dead Girls Detective Agency

As if that wasn’t enough, mainstream dating app Tinder will be releasing an original series called Swipe Night in early October, which is its first venture to involve financing and distributing content.

Individuals involved with the project told Variety that the series is styled with a ‘choose your own adventure’ setup, and the backdrop is an impending apocalypse. App users will be able to view the show directly on the platform, and swipe left or right according to which plot feature they want to advance with.

The project will have six episodes, and producers are considering having the show air on another streaming or broadcast platform further down the line.
