It’s safe to say that The Great British Baking Show is one of the most popular titles around, with each new season growing its fanbase more. Currently, season 11 is airing in the UK, with episodes landing weekly on Netflix each Friday.
As with any competition, it would make sense that people win a prize if they manage to beat out the rest of the contestants. However, this is not the case with The Great British Baking Show.
There is not a large cash prize or baking-related deal at the end, but there is one item – the winner lands a cake stand, which is typically made of glass and engraved with the show logo.
This may seem like a pretty terrible prize considering all the stressful weeks spent trying to impress the panel, but it’s worth considering that previous winners have gone on to achieve great success.
For example, Nadiya Hussain from series 6 in 2015 has been on several TV shows, released best-selling cookbooks and been a guest presenter on UK talk show Loose Women. She also baked Queen Elizabeth’s birthday cake for her 90th in April 2016.
