Netflix are bringing the world of The Witcher back to our screens with prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin. It’s the second Witcher spinoff series in the works from Netflix – the first, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, was announced in January 2020 and will be an animated film focusing on Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will take place 1,200 years before The Witcher. It will be live-action and formed of six episodes. As for the plot, Netflix said: ‘Set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres’, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.’
Executive producer and showrunner Declan de Barra commented: ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher’.
There are no casting details revealed yet, but we do know the show will shoot in the UK.
There’s also no release date yet, though when the series drops, you’ll be able to watch it free with a 30 day free trial from Netflix – you can watch season 1 of The Witcher this way too. In the meantime, why not check out Amazon Prime Video’s free 30 day trial for thousands of hours of content? They’ve been working hard to build their library, and they’ve got hit TVs and movies all available to stream totally free now with a 30 day free trial.
