DC’s Stargirl superhero TV show had its season finale last night (10th August) on DC Universe, and now fan anticipation for season 2 is mounting. The episode, titled ‘Stars & S.T.R.I.P.E. Part 2’, will air on The CW at 8pm ET. Minor spoilers ahead!
With the season 1 finale seeing the introduction of two new villains, we can make some guesses about the upcoming season 2. One villain was teased when Cindy Burman (Meg DeLacy) uncovered a diamond she called ‘Eclipso’.
In the comics, Eclipso was trapped in a black diamond known as the Heart of Darkness. If Cindy has indeed uncovered this particular diamond, she could be about to absorb the power of Eclipso – a villain who thrives on darkness and hatred.
The other villain hinted at was the Shade. He appeared earlier in season 1 as only a shadow, and the finale saw Icicle (Neil Jackson) and Dragon King (Nelson Lee) discuss his betrayal of the ISA. The Shade could pose a formidable threat to Courtney (Brec Bassinger) and her friends – as could Eclipso.
Season 2 doesn’t yet have a release date, but we can probably expect it sometime late next year.
As for whether Stargirl will stream on Netflix, the answer is probably no – as a DC Universe exclusive, the series is unlikely to ever stream on Netflix in the US. What’s far more likely, however, is that the series will eventually stream on HBO Max – especially with the news that much of DC Universe’s staff have been laid off in a major round of job losses at WarnerMedia.
