Following a deal with Peacock, WWE content is now moving exclusively to the platform. In other words, there will be over 17,000 hours of original and live content available both on demand and through a live channel from March 18 on Peacock.
The deal lasts five years and cost over $1 billion, with the rights being obtained by Peacock meaning that WWE fans will need to head over to Peacock Premium for events such as WrestleMania and SummerSlam. The option without ads is Premium Plus.
There is currently a WWE Network app, but this will be shut down to make way for the new Peacock acquisition. Those who are already subscribed to WWE will be able to migrate over to Peacock, and more details will be provided to them closer to the launch date.
Rick Cordella, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer at Peacock, said: ‘NBCUniversal has a long-standing relationship with WWE that began nearly 30 years ago with Monday Night Raw on USA. WWE has always tapped into the cultural zeitgeist with spectacular live events and larger-than-life characters, and we are thrilled to be the exclusive home for WWE Network and its millions of fans across the country.’
WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan said: ‘We are thrilled to further the long-standing and trusted partnership WWE has with NBCUniversal. Peacock is an innovative platform that will enable us to showcase our most significant events, including WrestleMania, and provide the extraordinary entertainment our fans have come to expect with the combination of premium WWE content, live sports, news, films, and television programs.’
