Many who enjoy lifestyle and entertainment programming will know about WE tv, and they may even have this channel included as part of their cable or streaming package. The channel’s name used to be an abbreviation of ‘womens’ entertainment’, but this meaning has changed since a rebranding back in 2014 due to a desire to be more inclusive of both males and females.
This channel is owned by AMC Networks, which also oversees sister channels IFC, Sundance TV, AMC and BBC America. There are roughly 73% of households in the US with access to this channel, according to 2015 data. Originally, the channel was called Romance Classics when it first launched back in September 1997. It used to be owned by Rainbow Media, and its primary focus was romantic dramas and comedies – plus TV miniseries.

The channel first began to be known for lifestyle and entertainment shows when it was renamed to We TV in 2006. At this point, it aired shows such as McLeod’s Daughters, Bridezillas, Secret Lives of Women, Amazing Cakes and Braxton Family Values.
We TV’s first original scripted series was The Divide, which had one season before being cancelled. Originally, this show was pitched to AMC. The channel has had a number of popular shows airing on it over the years. These include the following titles.
