Fans of Hilary Duff and perhaps her most career-defining role as Lizzie McGuire have been aware of hints that she is unhappy with the progress of the series reboot.
Recently, she posted on social media about Love, Simon being pulled from Disney Plus and commented ‘Sounds familiar’ in the wake of Lizzie McGuire being put on hold after the departure of show runner Terri Minsky.
Now she has posted a public plea on her Instagram for the show to be moved to Hulu so it isn’t restricted to a PG rating to be in line with the ‘family friendly’ ethos of the Disney service.
She said: ‘Was incredibly excited to launch ‘Lizzie’ on D+ and my passion remains! However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with Lizzie who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her. I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.
‘It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating her life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable.
‘It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.’
