Some may know it as Video Hits One, but this channel is more commonly labelled as VH1. The network is owned by ViacomCBS and is headquartered in New York City. There was originally a need to replace the Cable Music Channel begun by Turner Broadcasting System – or TBS – and so Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment created VH1. At this time, Warner-Amex was the owner of MTV, and so VH1 was launched under them in 1985. However, the original goal to play music videos which targeted older viewers than those tuning into MTV soon changed to reality TV programming. Roughly 90 million households in America have access to VH1, according to data from 2016.
