BBC is known to be a reputable network across the globe, which is why so many Americans tune into BBC America. Owned by AMC Networks and BBC Studios, this channel is known for airing action series and films, sci-fi content, and selected programs from the BBC.

The channel was established in 1998 and used to feature numerous drama, comedy, and lifestyle programs from British TV broadcasters, such as BBC, Channel 4, and ITV. Changing Rooms and Ground Force were popular lifestyle shows broadcast by BBC America.

Later on, BBC established its own niche, as non-British viewers found lifestyle shows very appealing. The newer shows were introduced during the evening schedule. This rebranding contributed to BBC America’s success, which was present in almost 81 million households in the US in 2018.

BBC America started to produce its own original programming in 2012, known as Copper. They also co-produced British series, such as Killing Eve, The Musketeers, Robin Hood, and even Doctor Who. Other current programming includes all Star Trek movies, The Graham Norton Show, and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

The channel is suitable for teens, young adults, and a more mature audience. The content is edited for commercials and adult content. BBC America also broadcasts comedy shows in 40-minute blocks, while drama programs are also shown. The network’s rotation of daytime programming permits additional series to return periodically.

While BBC America used to broadcast news from Monday to Friday, all news now airs on the BBC World News channels. Many other news broadcasts were removed from the channel too, such as BBC World News Bulletins, Sport Today, and World News Today.
